Das Blue Art Orchestra (B. A. O) wurde im Jahre 1988 gegründet. Seit 1989 arbeitet die Band unter der Leitung von Georg Ruby und hat in diesem Zeitraum ihre ganz eigene Arbeitsweise in Auswahl und Interpretation zeitgenössischen, meist europäischen Materials für Jazz-Orchester gefunden. Kompositionen und Arrangements von Musikern wie Kenny Wheeler, Maria Schneider, John Warren, Django Bates, Francy Boland und natürlich auch Georg Ruby.

The Blue Art Orchestra (BAO) was founded in 1988. Since 1989 it has been conducted by Georg Ruby and has found its own way of interpretation of contemporary orchestral jazz music. Compositions and arrangements of musicians like Kenny Wheeler, Gianluigi Trovesi, Django Bates, Francy Boland and, of course, Georg Ruby himself are characterising the band's repertoire. The BAO also has a vocalis: Edith van den Heuvel. She is a featured soloist and also »serve« as additional musical colour without any lyrics. The orchestra is prizewinner of the German orchestra competition 1996 in Gera. Together with two other bands it has received the highest German award for big bands.
Tours to England, France and Spain as well as one to Poland, sponsored by Deutscher Musikrat because of the 1996 prizewininng, provided indispensable international (musical) contacts.
