Modern Improvised Chambermusic

Someone who has been to a concert of guitarist Massoud Godemann might find that many of his musical ideas have been thoroughly revised. This jazz is an extremely fresh and vivacious affair exceeding the boundaries of perception.

The Massoud Godemann Trio (MG3) plays in a manner of trying and searching an own way to participate in the great telling of jazz. In the idea of pianist Bill Evans' definition of jazz not being an intellectual theorem, Massoud Godemann and his companions Gerd Bauder (b) and Michael Pahlich (dr) try to – as one of Godemann's compositions is entitled – follow their hearts. Their playing is about feeling – in a sophisticated way, one may add.

Communication is the key which leads percussion, bass and guitar into a flowing dia- and trialogue. Using composition as a starting point, a free interaction develops itself which is based on creation and which, by means of stable structures, prevents egomanical defibring. The trio possesses a steady present groove which sometimes swings, sometimes rocks and occasionally takes the liberty of finely chasing the perplexity of the listener. Heavily grooving songs such as "Kebop" and "Graviton Blue", puzzling collages such as "Afrodite" and quiet ballads such as "Beta World" form an always captivating phenomenology of sound.

And it is by far not only traditional jazz lovers to whom MG3 appeals, but also more and more Alternative and Independent fans in search of something special.
