Kip Reed’s understanding of Brazilian, African and other world-beat music, combined with his background in jazz and popular music make him one of the most in-demand electric bassists on the east and north coasts. He has recorded or performed with Brazilian superstars Leny Andrade, Bebel Gilberto, Ivan Lins and Tania Maria and jazz legends Brother Jack Mcduff, Chico Hamilton, James Moody and Joe Lovano.

Kip Reed’s understanding of Brazilian, African and other world-beat music, combined with his background in jazz and popular music make him one of the most in-demand electric bassists on the east and north coasts. In his nearly 35-year performance career, he has toured Europe, Asia, South America and most influentially, Africa. Two stints in Morocco with Jamey Haddad led to the study of African rhythms. He has recorded or performed with Brazilian superstars Leny Andrade, Bebel Gilberto, Ivan Lins and Tania Maria, disco divas Donna Summer and Gloria Gaynor, jazz legends Brother Jack Mcduff, Chico Hamilton, James Moody and Joe Lovano.

Kip Reed has been featured on recordings alongside bass greats Anthony Jackson and Freddie Washington. He can be heard on dozens of recordings, notably, Nancy Wilson's Grammy-winning CD "Turned to Blue.”

As an educator, Kip has lectured at Oberlin Conservatory and taught jazz and world rhythms at The Drummer’s Collective in New York City.
