Judy Rafat, ehemalige Schülerin und Protege des großen Dizzy Gillespie gehört zweifellos zu den besten und vielseitigsten Jazzsängerinnen der Gegenwart. Wie auch Diana Krall ist Judy Rafat in Kanada geboren. Sie hat an der University of Western Ontario klassische Musik mit Hauptfächer Gesang und Querflöte studiert.
Nach ihrem Umzug nach Deutschland wurde sie sozialengagierte Folksängerin und machte sich bundesweit einen Namen. Danach ihr grosses Treffen mit Dizzy Gillespie in 1986
Judy RafatJudy Rafat is a jazz vocalist and was born in Toronto, Canada. She studied at the University of Western Ontario in Canada with a B. A. in Music, voice and flute. She has been a lecturer at the Gerhard Mercator University in Duisburg and the University of Essen for vocal jazz. She has toured all over in the world. She was on tour with Dizzy Gillespie in Eastern Europe in 1989 -90. She recorded a CD "Con Alma" a Tribute to Dizzy Gillespie in N. Y. with Kenny Barron, Rufus Reid, Claudio Roditi, Paquito d'Rivera, John Lee, Ignacio Berroa, Frank Wess and Mike Longo. She sings jazz standards at a high level of performance and also entertaining jazz--blues, swing, ballads, soul, bossa nova and soul. www. judyrafat. de
