Florian Hierdeis was born on 13. 04. 77 in Augsburg (Germany) and started playing the guitar at the age of 10. At the age of 13 he started having private lessons with Buddy Brudzinski in classical guitar. At the age of 18, he got in contact with Django Reinhardts music via his guitar teacher and fell in love with Jazz. He started buying and listening to CDs of Joe Pass, Tal Farlow, Barney Kessel, Kenny Burrell, Emily Remler and John Scofield. Florian ran the local jam sessions in his city and practiced a lot. There he also went to concerts of Attilla Zoller, Charly Byrd and Herb Ellis, Wolfgang Lackerschmid a. o. and was strongly infected by the jazz virus. At that time, his guitar teacher also tought him music-theory lessons.

In 1998, at the age of 22 he decided to really go for it.

He was already playing jazz gigs regularly in and around his city, but after he had been going on tour by band bus to play a commercial jazz gig with a band in Northern Germany, he wanted to live for his music and become a professional musician.

He passed the entrance examination for the "BerufsfachSchule für Musik in Krumbach (Bavaria) " and was enrolled instantly for a fulltime, two-year course of study. Here, he had lessons by his main subject teacher and brilliant Berkelee graduate, guitar player Torsten de Winkel from NY (head of the NewYorkJazzGuerrilla), Mini Schulz, Marcus Bodenseh and Stefan Barcsay a. o. After this course of study at this school he went on doing the "Berkelee meets Europe"-workshop in the North-West of Germany.

Here was the first time he heard of the "Conservatory of Amsterdam" from some students who did the workshop, too. After he hearing them playing (late at night, at the jam sessions), he knew that he wanted to join that school and this great city full of jazz.

He enrolled immediately into the fist year.

His first teacher was Maarten van der Grinten, who really picked him up in a good way, after a couple of people and teachers didn't understand him, because he first learned to improvise with his ears and then began to understand what he was playing. In the following years he had lessons with Martijn van Iterson, Martien Oster, Jesse van Ruller, Joep Lumeij und Ed Verhoeff, Ferial Karamat Ali, David de Marezoyens, a. m. o.

He followed actively and passively masterclasses with Kurt Rosenwinkel, Nelson Faria, Pat Martino, Mike Stern, a. m. o.

On November 22nd of 2005 he graduated the Conservatory of Amsterdam and is now authorized to add the title "Bachelor of Music" to his name. Since 2000, Florian has been part of the jazz- and music-scene of Amsterdam, composes and is tries to add to a better European jazz interactivity. (f. e. he asked DIG d'DIZ to play in Augsburg, with who he has played as featured guest. )

He played with:

Maarten v/d Grinten, Jan Menu, Jan Vogd, Anne Brattinga, Durk Hijma, Thomas Winther Andersen, Jasper Lekkerkerk, Natalio Sued, Andreas Pichler, Felix Hildenbrandt, Lior Kuperberg, Joe Ambrosia, Raffaela Herberts, David de Marezoyens, Jensey Lima dos Santos, Bryan Leinwand, Clarence Becton, and many others.

He played:

Bossa Nova, Samba, Django Reinhardt (zigano) Swing, Vocal Jazz, Modern Jazz, from Bebop to Dixie Jazz, Blues, Funk, R&B, Soul.

Since 2002 he is a guitar teacher at the "Jongerencentrum Volta" (www. jcvolta. nl) in Amsterdam. From 2006 he is being giving guitar lessons at the private music-school Meer Music in Hoofddorp.
