Braskiri

You can tell a tale in a million different ways. The musical synergy between Dirk Balthaus and Bert Lochs has already resulted in a lot of novel experimental storytelling, and with the newest project Braskiri an exciting new road is being explored. With the addition of a drummer they have changed the perspective in order to give complete freedom to each individual, whilst providing more comfort for the whole. The listener is lured by seemingly approachable passageways into an unexpectedly layered and fantastic world of sound. The growling, dangerous tuba can sing a silky soft melody, the rustic piano can transform into a tornado, the bold trumpet turns into an elegy and the twinkling cymbals burst into a groove machine. Nothing is what it seems in the world called Braskiri.

Initiated by Bert Lochs, LochsBalthausHerskedal was founded in 2009. Trumpet, piano and tuba. After two successful CD's, numerous concerts amongst which North Sea Jazz in 2010, Jazz International Enschede, Jazzschmiede Düsseldorf and the famous Jazzclub Victoria in Oslo, our Nordic tuba player Daniel Herskedal, became so much in demand for that he had to make choices. He quit the band and brought forward the very young and talented and also Nordic Steffen Granly. Soon after Steffen joined us, the plans extended to include a drummer. Steffen's strong, musical tuba groove is now emphasized by the swinging, colorful drummer Wim Kegel,. After playing a few sessions, Wim lifted the band to a whole new level. In a very short time and based on a growing amount of new compositions from Bert, the band found a fresh new sound of its own, which can be heard on this mini-cd recorded in march 2014.
